About

Dr Darryn Marks is an APA Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with over 25 years of clinical experience. He is highly qualified and experienced in the treatment of a wide variety of musculoskeletal and sports injuries.

Darryn is an Assistant Professor of Physiotherapy at Bond University, where he teaches and conducts research into musculoskeletal disorders. He has published research in areas of shoulder pain, health economics, back pain and presented at conferences in Australia and overseas. Darryn also has years of experience in teaching medical and physiotherapy students at Griffith University, also doctors and physiotherapists.

Darryn has been a leader in advanced/extended physiotherapy practice in Australia and the UK. He has developed and led teams of health professionals that work closely with orthopaedic surgeons, spinal neurosurgeons, rheumatologists and pain specialists to diagnose musculoskeletal problems and efficiently direct patients to the most appropriate type of care (surgical, medical or therapy). Darryn spent 10 years in the UK where he became an NHS Consultant Physiotherapist, was one of the first physiotherapists in the UK qualified to prescribe medicines, trained in musculoskeletal injections, image and blood test interpretation. Since returning to Australia, Darryn led the multidisciplinary Orthopaedic and Neurosurgery Screening Service at Gold Coast University Hospital and Robina Hospitals for over 9 years. In the past, Darryn was an elite junior tennis player and qualified coach, with a sports-focused early physiotherapy career that included roles with the Australian Institute of Sport tennis program, national league netball and basketball teams and club-level AFL.

Darryn treats musculoskeletal, sports and work-related problems. He can provide a second opinion for patients or advice for health professionals in the management of more complex problems. He has particular interests in shoulders, back/neck problems and headaches.
